Food & Dining
Enjoy the real taste of exquisite Canarian cooking; fresh, simple ingredients produced from the land and sea, the cuisine of the islands surprises the palate with its imaginative specialities.
A speciality of Canarian cuisine is ‘papas arrugadas con mojo’, little ‘wrinkly potatoes’ with mojo verde (green garlic sauce) or mojo rojo (spicy, red garlic sauce).
On Sundays and holidays, restaurants frequented by the locals like to make ‘ puchero’, an elaborate stew consisting of several kinds of meat (the original has 7 different meats) and various kinds of vegetables. The vegetables, mostly carrots, potatoes, maize, white cabbage and chick peas ‘garbanzos’ are cooked separately in salted water and then put on the plate with the meat.
There are a wide range of restaurants offering ‘tapas’ to full course meals. There is a choice between the local cuisine and the tourist restaurants, some of which offer familiar ‘English’ food.
